My name is Susan Langlois (pronounced Lang-wa in French) and I've lived in the Baton Rouge area since the age of 5. My family is originally from Mississippi (Mom) and Alabama (Dad), and we moved to the area when my father was transferred here with Bush Jewelry Co. The store was located in downtown Baton Rouge on 3rd Street. In the early 1950's this was the bustling heart of the city, and downtown holds a lot of happy memories and still has a certain magic for me. I grab every opportunity to attend downtown functions such as concerts, productions at River Center and dinner at the great restaurants! Since an early age, I have had an avid interest in history, genealogy, and architecture. These interests have been easily fulfilled in an area so rich in design, history, and family tradition. As I grew older, these interests sort of naturally evolved into real estate as well. Walking home from school as a child, I often noticed many of the homes and architecture in our neighborhood of Hundred Oaks. Some of these grand old (now vintage) homes are still my favorites! I guess even then real estate was in my blood.

"If you want something done, give it to a busy person", is an expression my friends often use when talking about my life. Working full-time to maintain a successful real estate career for the past 20 years, I also was very involved in my children's schools and outside activities, public service, and the community. As a single mother of three kids for 15 years, juggling family, home, and work was often hard, but in looking back, it was also very rewarding. Ten years ago I married Mike Mulkey, after 14 years of courtship. We always joked that with both of us raising 3 children each, we just didn’t want to be the “Brady Bunch”. So, we waited to marry after all of them were grown. Well so much for best laid plans. With our 6 kids, their husbands, wives, and 19 grandchildren, our home is always full of fun and kids anyway, as we total 37 when we all get together! | | | | Susan Skiing With "Some" Of Her Family. | |

Cosmetic Improvements >Sunshine Sells
When your home is being shown, you want prospective buyers to feel good as soon as they step into the living room. It pays to give special attention to maximizing the amount of light in your home because dark homes are depressing to many people. When prospective buyers give real estate agents feedback on the homes that we show, they often cite a light, airy feeling as a major attraction.
Begin your preparation for showing your home by cleaning the windows and curtains thoroughly. Open the drapes and blinds to let the sunshine in. Even on a bright day it helps to turn on some lights in the main rooms of the house. If you are using shades or heavy drapes to eliminate a less-than-perfect view, you may want to consider replacing them with translucent curtains in a light color. Sunshine definitely helps to sell homes!
